didn't it start with Carnegie and Rockefeller?

maybe because we don't see many of said rich people (unless by "build things" you mean "start another company that they can sell and make them even more money")

People don’t build new companies after a successful exit to “make even more money.” You’re projecting.

> People don’t build new companies after a successful exit to “make even more money.”

They absolutely do. I interact with people who do just that.

> You're projecting.

LOL. The last thing I want to do is start a company or try to make $100's of millions.

Leave money aside—why wouldn’t you want to start a company and build something yourself?

> opportunity squandered to grow CL the way other unicorney companies grew

squandered?

how about: decided not to become an asshole billionaire like many of the other unicorn asshole billionaires, and help other people instead

> a large portion of their revenue comes from facilitating scams. Around 25% of rooms/apartments I contact are scams

they don't charge for rental posts in most cities, so your conclusion is false

this chart in the article has got to be the most confusing ever:

"Map showing the affordability decline by state as costs of living outpaced wages"

so a + is an increase in affordability as the title indicates (wages outpacing COL), or + is a decrease in affordability aka an increase in non-affordability (COL outpacing wages)

Beautiful! Love the fluidity. Great for calligraphy.

> While I've tidied up a bit, the rest of this article contains plenty of AI-witten prose.

This is the right approach. I have no problem with someone using AI to draft a presentation (especially a technical one like this) -- just say it upfront and then people have no reason to get upset.

Things were considerably better in the '50s than whatever this is that we're living through. Especially for scientists. A lot less inequality too.

The only way in which we're "getting back to the 50s" is that it's now ok again to be openly racist and blatantly suppress the voting rights of black Americans.

you wouldn't want citizenship anyway; safer to remain a foreigner while living/working there, even long-term

> considering moving internally

does that get you a new fed administration that isn't idiotically anti-science?

Vought, Miller and others in the Admin, are evil, but not stupid. This is intentionally destroying the system to make it very difficult for a future administration to get it going again.
